Dense 2U storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twenty-four 2.5-inch hot-plug bays into a 2U rack chassis. Dual Xeon ten-core processors at 2.3 GHz deliver forty virtual threads for parallel workloads. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 populate a fraction of the twenty-four DIMM slots. Three 1.2 TB SAS drives ship on the H730 RAID controller with one gigabyte cache. The platform targets density-focused deployments that need local capacity and compute together.

Capacity ceiling and headroom

The chassis accepts up to twenty-four drives for a raw maximum of 52 TB across SAS or SATA media. RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are supported by the H730. Installed memory sits at 16 GB against a processor-limited ceiling of 1536 GB across twenty-four slots. Three drives occupy only a small portion of the bay count, leaving room for expansion. Workloads that outgrow the default memory or drive count will require additional modules and disks.

Thermals noise and power

Dual 750-watt redundant supplies share the load and maintain operation if one unit fails. The 2U form factor uses high-speed system fans to move air through the dense drive bay area and CPU heatsinks. Acoustic output is typical for rack-mounted equipment and not suited to quiet office environments. Power draw scales with drive population and CPU utilisation; the redundant design adds a small overhead versus single-supply configurations.
