The PowerEdge R730xd fits 24 hot-swap 2.5-inch drive bays into a 2U chassis, making it suitable for data warehouses, VDI and HPC data nodes. Dual Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors deliver 28 cores at 2.4 GHz with 3.3 GHz turbo. 64 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC memory is installed across four 16 GB modules, leaving 20 slots open for expansion up to 1.5 TB.

Tool-less rails and front-access components

Ready Rails allow the server to slide into a standard rack without tools, and the bezel snaps on afterwards. All power supplies, fans and drives are hot-swappable from the front or rear, so failed parts can be replaced without shutting down. The PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Initial RAID configuration is performed through the controller BIOS or iDRAC8 Enterprise before the operating system loads.

Dual 750 W platinum supplies sustain full load

Each supply shares the load evenly, so the system continues running if one unit fails or is removed for service. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for storage and migration traffic. Under sustained database or virtualization workloads the CPUs maintain turbo frequencies within the thermal envelope of the 2U form factor, while iDRAC8 Enterprise gives remote power, sensor and console access independent of the host OS.
