The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug bays into a 2U rack height, providing high local capacity for workloads that keep large data sets close to compute. It ships with a single six-core Xeon E5-2609v3 at 1.9 GHz and 64 GB of DDR4 memory across the twenty-four DIMM slots. The PERC H330 controller manages the three installed 300 GB 15K SAS drives and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60.

Sustained throughput with fifteen-thousand RPM

The 15K SAS drives deliver consistent random IOPS under continuous load, avoiding the latency spikes that appear when slower spindles saturate their caches. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies keep the array and both CPU sockets fed during extended batches, while the C610 chipset maintains full PCIe 3.0 bandwidth to the RAID card and the six general-purpose slots. Memory runs at speeds the processor allows, up to 2400 MT/s, so large working sets stay in RAM without throttling.

Hot-plug bays and redundant power simplify daily ops

Twelve front-accessible trays let technicians swap drives without shutting down or unracking the chassis, and the second CPU socket remains open for a future processor upgrade. The H330’s 12 Gbps SAS links connect to backplanes that also accept SATA media, giving flexibility when the drive mix changes. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band hardware control, and the four onboard 1 GbE ports handle management and data traffic without extra cards.
