Dense 2U storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twenty-four 2.5-inch hot-plug bays into a 2U rack chassis. A single eight-core Xeon E5-2630 v3 at 2.4 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 provide the compute base for storage-heavy workloads. The integrated Perc H730 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across SAS or SATA drives. Remote administration is handled by iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller.

Dual 750 W redundant supplies

Two hot-swap 750 W power supplies share the load and keep the system running if one unit fails. The 2U form factor uses front-to-rear airflow through the drive bay area and the processor heatsinks. A Matrox G200 graphics chip with 8 MB cache draws minimal power for console output. No drives are installed, so idle power and noise depend on the drives you add.

Twenty-four bays and six PCIe slots

The chassis accepts up to 24 SAS or SATA drives and a dedicated RAID card slot, leaving six PCIe 3.0 slots for networking or acceleration cards. A daughter card provides four 1 GbE ports, with optional 10 GbE upgrades. Twenty-four DIMM slots support up to 1536 GB of DDR4 when a second processor is added. Rails and a power cable are included for rack mounting.
