The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twenty-four 2.5-inch hot-plug bays into a 2U rack footprint. A single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz delivers sixteen threads for virtualised workloads. Forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory populate the twenty-four DIMM slots, with the platform supporting up to 1536 GB when both sockets are filled. The integrated PERC H730 controller manages three 300 GB 15K SAS drives in RAID configurations from 0 through 60.

Dual 750 W redundant supplies

Two hot-swap 750 W power supplies share the load and maintain operation if one unit fails. The 2U chassis directs airflow from front to rear across the drive cage and processor heatsinks, keeping component temperatures within specification during typical mixed read-write activity. Acoustic output remains consistent with data-centre expectations for a rackmount server of this density. The DDR4 memory subsystem runs at speeds supported by the installed processor, avoiding throttling during extended compute passes. Thermal headroom in the 2U enclosure allows the single CPU to maintain its base frequency without downclocking. The six PCIe 3.0 slots plus the dedicated RAID slot remain available for additional networking or acceleration cards if the workload expands.
