The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack-mount system built for storage-dense workloads. Two Intel Xeon Silver 6130 processors running at 2.1GHz provide 32 cores and 22MB cache per CPU. 32GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory is installed across two 16GB modules. The chassis accepts up to 12 large-form-factor drives for high-capacity arrays.
Capacity headroom and limits
Maximum memory capacity reaches 3TB when all DIMM slots are populated with supported modules. The PERC H730P RAID controller manages SATA drives in multiple RAID levels for redundancy or performance. Twelve 3.5-inch bays give room for large mechanical disks, but the system ships without any drives installed. Integrated graphics handle basic display output only, so GPU-accelerated compute tasks are not supported.
Thermals noise and power
Dual 1100W power supplies deliver redundancy and headroom for fully populated configurations. The iDRAC9 Enterprise licence provides remote monitoring of temperatures, fan speeds and power draw. Firmware is updated to the latest stable version before shipment and each unit passes a full burn-in test. Rack rails are available on request for installation in standard cabinets.
