The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server built for data-intensive workloads that demand high capacity in a compact footprint. Two Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 processors provide 24 cores each at 2.4GHz with 3.9GHz turbo for parallel compute tasks. 512GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 16 slots supports large working sets and data integrity. Twenty-six 3.5-inch drive bays filled with 4TB 7.2K SATA drives deliver raw capacity for archives, backups or software-defined storage clusters.

HBA330 and dual 25Gb networking

The PERC HBA330 controller presents the 26 SATA drives to the operating system without hardware RAID abstraction, which suits ZFS, Ceph or similar software-defined storage stacks that manage redundancy themselves. A Broadcom 57414 dual-port 10/25Gb SFP28 OCP 2.0 mezzanine card adds high-throughput network connectivity for replication or client access. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full remote management, power control and firmware updates without physical presence. Dual 1100W platinum power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation.

26-bay chassis and rail constraints

The 2U chassis holds 26 hot-swap 3.5-inch drives in a dense front-loading layout that maximises storage per rack unit. Redundant hot-swap power supplies and fans allow component replacement without downtime. Front bezel and ready rails are not included, so mounting hardware must be sourced separately for the target rack. The LGA 3647 socket and 16 DIMM slots leave no room for additional processors beyond the two installed, and memory expansion is limited to the 1TB maximum.
