4U Xeon E7-8891 v4 Server

This new Dell PowerEdge R930 delivers a 4U rackmount server system built around four Intel Xeon E7-8891 v4 processors running at 2.8 GHz with 10 cores each. It includes 3 TB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 96 slots and 24 enterprise SATA SSDs of 960 GB each. The platform targets organisations that need maximum compute density and memory capacity for in-memory databases, virtualization or analytics workloads.

Pre-order compatibility checks

Verify that your rack provides 4U of vertical space and that the power infrastructure can supply four 1100 W 80+ Platinum power supplies. Confirm the LGA 2011 socket and Intel C602J chipset match any planned processor changes, and ensure the PERC H330 storage controller supports the desired RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 or 50 configuration. The iDRAC 8 Enterprise module requires a dedicated management network connection for remote administration.

Replaces older 2-socket or memory-limited servers

This system upgrades from platforms limited to two processors or lower DIMM counts by providing four sockets, 96 memory slots and a 12 TB maximum memory ceiling. The jump is worth it when workloads demand more than 3 TB of active memory, higher core counts for parallel processing, or 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch drive bays for local storage density. It does not suit buyers who need GPU acceleration, NVMe boot drives or a smaller chassis footprint.
