The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server equipped with four Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors. Each CPU delivers 24 cores at a 2.1 GHz base frequency with a 3.7 GHz turbo capability. The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory installed across eight 16 GB modules. It targets organisations running mission-critical workloads that demand high core counts and large memory capacity in a compact rack footprint.

Eight-bay storage with H730P controller

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with 800 GB SATA SSDs connected to a Dell PERC H730P 2 GB controller. The controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. A quad-port network daughter card provides two 1 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible connectivity. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full remote management. Forty-eight DIMM slots allow memory expansion up to 6 TB when additional modules are added.

Dual 1600 W platinum power supplies

Redundant hot-swap 1600 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver power to the four-processor configuration. The 3U chassis includes ready rails and a front bezel for standard rack installation. Cooling is handled by the system's internal fan array designed for the dense processor and storage layout. The platform supports SAS and SATA drive interfaces through the PERC controller.
