Socket AM4 platform
The GIGABYTE B450 AORUS ELITE is an ATX motherboard built around the AMD B450 chipset for Socket AM4 processors. It supports Ryzen 1st and 2nd Generation CPUs as well as Ryzen with Radeon Vega Graphics processors. Four DDR4 slots accept up to 64 GB of dual-channel memory at speeds up to 3200 O.C. The board provides a single PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, one PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot running at x4, and two PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots for expansion.
M.2 Thermal Guard and StoreMI
A metal M.2 Thermal Guard covers the primary M.2 socket to dissipate heat from high-speed SSDs and reduce throttling. AMD StoreMI technology combines a fast drive with a larger HDD to accelerate boot times and application loading without manual data management. Smart Fan 5 headers and hybrid fan pins allow temperature-based fan curves for quieter operation. RGB Fusion software controls onboard LEDs and connected strips for synchronized lighting effects.
Verify CPU generation and cooler clearance
Confirm your Ryzen processor is a 1st or 2nd Generation part; newer generations are not supported by this chipset. The primary M.2 socket accepts 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 form factors with both SATA and PCIe 3.0 x4 or x2 drives, while the secondary socket supports 2242, 2260 and 2280 PCIe 3.0 x2 only. Six SATA 6Gb/s ports support RAID 0, 1 and 10. Display output requires a CPU with integrated graphics and uses the rear HDMI or DVI-D ports.
