The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a single rack unit and ships with two Xeon E5-2623v3 quad-core processors, 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a pair of 1 TB 7.2 K SATA drives. The B140i software RAID controller supports RAID 0, 1 and 5 on SATA media only. Redundant hot-swap power supplies and eight 2.5-inch drive bays provide room for expansion within the same chassis.

This platform works for buyers who want a ready-to-run dual-socket server with software RAID on SATA drives. It is not suited for buyers who need a hardware RAID controller, SAS connectivity, more than two internal drives without adding a controller, or support for memory types other than DDR4. The installed 32 GB already reaches the listed maximum capacity.

B140i software RAID limited to SATA RAID 0, 1, 5

The storage controller is the deciding specification: it provides software RAID levels 0, 1 and 5 exclusively for SATA drives. If your workload requires hardware RAID acceleration, SAS drive support or a different RAID level, this server will not meet that requirement without an additional controller.
