The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 packs two Xeon E5-2670v3 processors, each with 12 cores at 2.3GHz, into a single rack unit. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 ECC memory and a Smart HBA H240ar controller come pre-installed. It targets buyers who need high core density and redundant power in minimal space.

Dual CPUs and hardware RAID transform raw drives

The bundled H240ar controller adds RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the two included 1TB SAS drives. Redundant 500W hot-swap power supplies keep the system running if one unit fails. Hyper-threading presents 48 logical threads to the operating system, while 24 DIMM slots allow future memory expansion.

SAS 6Gbps limits drive throughput

The 12Gbps controller negotiates down to the 6Gbps speed of the installed 7.2K drives, capping sequential transfer rates. Only four 3.5-inch LFF bays exist, so total raw storage cannot exceed the installed pair without removing drives. No optical drive or GPU beyond the basic Matrox G200 is present, limiting local media install and graphical output.
