Dense 1U rack server for space-constrained workloads

The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 packs dual Xeon E5-2620 v3 processors into a 1U chassis with redundant 500W hot-swap power. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory and two 500GB 7.2K SATA drives ship installed. The B140i controller provides RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 for SATA devices only, while the Matrox G200 handles basic video output. Eight small-form-factor bays leave room for additional 2.5-inch drives.

Upgrade path from single-socket

Moving from a single Xeon E5 v3 or an earlier v2 system adds a second socket and twelve physical cores, raising the virtual-core count to twenty-four with hyper-threading. The jump is worth it when multi-threaded applications such as virtualisation hosts or database instances need more simultaneous threads than a single processor can deliver. The C610 chipset and twenty-four DIMM slots support future memory expansion up to 3TB, so the platform grows with the workload.

Sixteen gigabytes handles light virtualisation.

The installed 16GB suits small test labs, single-application servers or development boxes that run a handful of virtual machines. Production databases, heavy VDI deployments or large in-memory analytics will exhaust this capacity quickly.
