Purpose-built 1U rack server

The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 is a 1U rack server fitted with a single Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processor running at 3.4GHz and 8GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. It ships with two 600GB 15K SAS drives and an H240ar RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 500W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy in a space-constrained chassis.

SAS interface and memory ceiling

The H240ar controller delivers 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA connectivity to the eight 2.5-inch drive bays, limiting throughput to those link speeds. Installed memory is 8GB, although the platform specifies 24 DIMM slots and a 3TB maximum when both processor sockets are populated. Current configuration uses only one processor, so only 12 slots are active and the practical ceiling is lower without a second CPU.

Tool-less installation and common issues

The server slides into a standard 1U rack space and uses tool-less drive carriers for the SAS drives, while the redundant power supplies are hot-swappable at the rear. Memory upgrades require matching DDR4 ECC registered modules and correct slot population per processor; mixing ranks or speeds will prevent POST. A second processor kit is needed to unlock the remaining 12 DIMM slots and the full 3TB capacity.
