The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 arrives as a complete 1U rack server with a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 processor installed. Twelve cores run at 2.3 GHz and provide 24 threads through hyper-threading. Forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory fill 24 DIMM slots across the two processor sockets. Two 600 GB 15 000 rpm SAS drives sit in the front bays behind the Smart HBA H240ar controller. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies deliver redundant power from day one.

Suits dense virtualisation, not GPU compute

This configuration suits teams that need maximum CPU density in a single rack unit for virtualisation, database or high-performance computing workloads. The Matrox G200 graphics controller provides only basic console output and cannot accelerate GPU workloads. Buyers who require hardware-accelerated graphics, AI inference or video transcoding should look at a different platform. The single processor leaves the second socket empty, so the 3 TB maximum memory ceiling and 36-core potential remain unavailable unless a second Xeon is added.

24 DIMM slots define future capacity

The server board provides 24 DDR4 DIMM slots, twelve per processor socket, and the installed 48 GB already occupies a portion of them. Expanding memory means populating the remaining slots with compatible 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB ECC registered modules up to 2400 MT/s. With only one processor installed the usable slot count is twelve; reaching the full 3 TB limit requires the second processor and its twelve slots. This slot layout is the single specification that determines how far the platform can grow.
