Server for multi-threaded workloads

The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 processors running at 1.9GHz. Each CPU provides six cores, giving twelve cores total for parallel tasks such as virtualisation hosts, database nodes or batch processing. It ships with 96GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across the 24 DIMM slots, reaching the maximum capacity supported by this specific configuration. Redundant hot-swap 500W power supplies maintain uptime during a single unit failure.

Storage controller and drives

The Smart HBA H240ar controller provides 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA connectivity with hardware RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Two 1TB 7.2K RPM 3.5-inch SAS drives are included in the twelve large-form-factor bays, offering a mirrored starting point for operating system or critical data. The controller operates in HBA mode for software-defined storage stacks or in RAID mode for traditional arrays, and additional drive cages can occupy the rear riser slot if more bays are required later.

Memory and expansion limits

Memory speed is capped at 2400MT/s but actual frequency depends on the installed Xeon E5-2609 v3 capability, so populated DIMMs may run slower than the rated maximum. The twenty-four slots are divided evenly between the two processors, and the 96GB shipped already fills the supported maximum for this build, leaving no room for expansion without removing modules. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics controller provides only basic console output, so the server is not suited for workloads requiring GPU acceleration or graphical desktop environments.
