2U rack server for dense compute

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 occupies 2U of rack space and is populated with a single twelve-core Xeon E5-2670 v3 running at 2.3 GHz. Forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 ECC memory are installed across the 24 DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to the platform maximum. Two 600 GB 15K SAS drives connect through the Smart HBA H240ar controller, which supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The system targets workloads that need high core counts and fast local storage in a standard rack footprint.

Sustained multi-threaded throughput

With twelve physical cores and twenty-four threads, the processor maintains its 2.3 GHz base clock across all cores during prolonged compute tasks. The 48 GB memory capacity feeds data to those threads without swapping, while the 15K SAS drives deliver consistent IOPS for database or virtualisation workloads. Dual 500 W redundant power supplies keep the server running if one unit fails, and the Intel C610 chipset provides stable I/O pathways for the H240ar controller under continuous load.

Thermals, noise and power draw

The 2U chassis uses redundant hot-swap fans that ramp speed based on inlet temperature and component load. Under typical utilisation the power draw is shared across the two 500 W supplies, keeping each unit well within its rating. Acoustic output is characteristic of a rack-mount server with high-speed fans and is intended for a data-centre environment rather than an office setting. No liquid cooling or specialised airflow accessories are included.
