The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads that need dense storage and redundant power. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor running at 1.9GHz and 48GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Two 4TB 7.2K SAS drives and an H240ar controller provide the storage foundation. Dual 500W hot-swap supplies keep the system running through a power-module failure.

Twelve-bay LFF chassis with SAS interface

The chassis holds twelve 3.5-inch large-form-factor drive bays, all wired to the Smart HBA H240ar controller. That controller links drives at 12Gb SAS or 6Gb SATA and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Each processor can address twelve DDR4 DIMM slots, giving a total of twenty-four slots across the two sockets. Memory speed reaches 2400MT/s when the installed processor allows it, and the board accepts 4GB through 64GB registered modules.

Single E5-2609 v3 limits core count

The factory configuration includes only one E5-2609 v3, so the server delivers six cores and twelve threads instead of the platform maximum of thirty-six cores. That single processor also caps addressable memory at 48GB, well below the 3TB the board can support with two CPUs. Buyers who need more compute threads or larger memory capacity must add a second compatible processor. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics provides basic console output only.
