2U rack server for virtualisation hosts

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 fits a standard 2U rack slot and ships with a single Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core 1.9 GHz processor. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 ECC memory occupy two of the twenty-four DIMM slots. Two 600 GB 15 K SAS drives on the H240ar controller give immediate storage. Redundant 500 W power supplies keep the platform running if one unit fails.

Capacity headroom with twelve drive bays

Twelve 3.5-inch LFF bays accept additional SAS or SATA drives while the H240ar supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The installed 8 GB is the minimum useful footprint; the board can scale to 3 TB across twenty-four slots when a second processor is added. The single CPU limits core count to six and memory channels to four, so heavy compute or dense virtualisation will need the second socket populated.

Bundled controller and drives define the starting

The Smart HBA H240ar provides 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA connectivity with hardware RAID off the backplane. Two 600 GB 15 K SAS drives deliver low-latency spindles for OS or database logs without extra cabling. No operating system is included, so the installer chooses the hypervisor or OS that matches the workload. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics handle only basic console output.
