The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack-mount server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 processor with twelve cores running at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across the 24 DIMM slots. Two 146 GB 15 000 RPM SAS drives connect through the Smart Array P440 controller with 4 GB flash-backed write cache. The chassis provides sixteen 2.5-inch SFF bays and dual 500 W redundant hot-swap power supplies. No operating system is included.

Check CPU socket count and drive bay wiring

This unit occupies one of the two supported processor sockets; a second Xeon E5 v3 can be added later if the workload demands more cores. Verify that your rack rails accept a 2U depth and that the SAS backplane cabling matches the P440 controller connectors. Memory expansion uses the remaining DIMM slots and requires DDR4 ECC registered modules up to 2400 MT/s; mixing speeds will clock all channels to the slowest module. The sixteen SFF bays are already populated with two drives, leaving fourteen bays free for additional SAS storage.

Sustained load with flash-backed cache

Under continuous write-heavy workloads the P440's 4 GB FBWC buffers data in non-volatile memory, protecting against loss during unexpected power events. The 15 000 RPM SAS drives maintain consistent throughput for random I/O patterns typical of database or virtualization tasks. Dual redundant power supplies share the load evenly, so a single supply failure does not reduce available power. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics adapter handles only basic console output and does not accelerate compute tasks.
