Eight-bay M.2 NVMe rack for 5.25-inch bay

The ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB873MP-B fits eight PCIe M.2 NVMe SSDs into a single external 5.25-inch optical drive bay. It accepts drive lengths of 30mm, 42mm, 60mm, 80mm and 110mm. The unit connects through eight OCuLink SFF-8612 ports wired to the SFF-9402 Rev 1.1 pin-out. It is built for servers and workstations that need dense, removable NVMe storage.

Check OCuLink ports and power connectors first

Your host system must provide eight OCuLink lanes to use every bay. The rack draws power for all eight SSDs from two 15-pin SATA power connectors. Verify that your backplane or controller supports the required lane count and that the cables reach the 5.25-inch mounting location. The enclosure does not support Tri-Mode operation.

Aluminium trays and dual fans sustain thermal

Each slimline tray uses thick aluminium to act as a heatsink, aided by included thermal pads that fill gaps between the SSD and tray. Dual 40x20mm fans move air through the entire enclosure during continuous workloads. EMI grounding clips the SSD to the tray and chassis, maintaining a grounded path when the unit is screwed into the system. Full-metal construction meets flammability requirements for industrial environments.
