Z390 Micro ATX foundation

The MSI Z390M-S01 is a Micro ATX board built on the Intel Z390 chipset with an LGA 1151 socket. It accepts 8th and 9th generation Core i9, i7, i5, i3, Pentium and Celeron processors. Four DDR4 DIMM slots and dual M.2 sockets give compact builds room to grow. The 9.6 by 9.6 inch form factor fits smaller cases while keeping full chipset features.

Memory and storage headroom

Four slots support up to 128 GB of DDR4 across a wide OC range from 2133 to 4400 MHz. Two M.2 connectors and four SATA 6 Gb/s ports handle boot drives and bulk storage, with RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 available on the SATA array. The primary PCIe 3.0 x16 slot runs at x16 or x4 depending on configuration, while a second x16 slot and a x1 slot add expansion flexibility. One M.2 E-key slot is reserved for Intel CNVi wireless modules.

Thermals and power delivery

The Z390 chipset and VRM area are cooled by passive heatsinks suited to stock and moderate overclock operation. A Realtek ALC892 codec provides 7.1 channel audio with S/PDIF output. A single Realtek 8111H controller drives Gigabit LAN. Rear video includes DVI-I and DisplayPort 1.2 for integrated graphics. USB connectivity covers 21 Gen2 10 Gbps ports, 8 Gen1 ports and 4 USB 2.0 headers. The board ships with motherboard, I/O shield and one SATA cable.
