The StarTech MDP2HDW is a passive Mini DisplayPort male to HDMI female adapter that lets you connect an HDMI display to a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt equipped computer. It requires no software or external power and works with MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Surface Pro devices.

Resolution capacity and headroom

The converter supports PC resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 and HDTV resolutions up to 1080p while passing 5.1 surround sound audio. As a passive DP++ device it relies on the source to output a dual-mode signal, so it cannot drive displays that need higher bandwidth or active signal conversion.

DisplayPort 1.1a and HDMI 1.3a limits

The adapter is built to the DisplayPort 1.1a and HDMI 1.3a standards, which cap digital video at 1920 x 1200 or 1080p at standard refresh rates. It will not support 4K resolutions, high refresh rate gaming monitors or advanced HDMI features such as HDR or eARC that require newer specification versions.
