The Synology RS826RP+ is a 1U rackmount network-attached storage system built for edge locations, branch offices, and remote business workloads. It ships fully assembled with an AMD Ryzen V1500B processor running at 2.2 GHz, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and four pre-installed 16TB Synology Plus drives totalling 64TB of raw capacity. Two 400GB enterprise cache SSDs provide 800GB of read-write acceleration for latency-sensitive applications.

Upgrade Path via Expansion Unit and PCIe Slot

The four-bay chassis supports 3.5-inch SATA hard drives and 2.5-inch SATA SSDs with hot-swap capability. Adding one RX426 expansion unit doubles the bay count to eight and raises the maximum raw capacity to 192TB using supported 24TB drives. A PCIe Gen3 slot accepts 10GbE or 25GbE network adapters, an M.2 SSD adapter, or a combined M.2 and 10GbE card for connectivity and caching upgrades.

Capacity Headroom and Operational Limits

The 64TB of included storage and 800GB cache handle multi-user file sharing, backup targets, and virtualization datastores with room for growth via the expansion unit. Sequential throughput exceeds 2,000 MB/s read and 1,300 MB/s write under the vendor tested configuration. Four 1GbE RJ-45 ports support Link Aggregation for bandwidth pooling and automatic failover. The system operates between 0°C and 35°C and is not suited for environments exceeding that temperature range.
