It allows the chassis to extend outward on rails so administrators can service drives or internal components without removing the appliance from the rack. Compatibility and rack constraints

This kit supports a wide range of Synology rackmount models across the FS, SA, RS and RX series from the 14 through 21 series. Buyers whose racks have mount-post spacing below 450 mm, panel width below 480 mm, or mounting depth outside the 610 mm to 890 mm range cannot use this kit.
