2U rack server for dense storage workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R530 fits into a standard 2U rack space and provides eight 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays. Dual Xeon E5-2603 v3 processors deliver twelve cores at 1.6 GHz, while 32 GB of DDR4 memory occupies four of the twelve available DIMM slots. The PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the two installed 2 TB SAS drives, leaving six bays free for expansion up to 80 TB total capacity.

Dual 750 W redundant supplies with hot-swap cooling

Two 750 W hot-plug power supplies share the load and allow one unit to be replaced without shutting down the server. System fans adjust speed based on inlet temperature and component load, keeping the CPUs and drive cage within thermal limits during typical database or file-serving tasks. Acoustic output remains consistent with other 2U rack designs intended for data-centre aisles rather than office desks.

Tool-less drive carriers

Each 3.5-inch bay uses a tool-less carrier so drives can be swapped in seconds while the server stays online. The iDRAC8 Express module provides out-of-band console access, power control and hardware inventory over a dedicated 1 GbE port, with an upgrade path to Enterprise licensing and vFlash media. Five PCIe slots (three 3.0 and two 2.0) accept additional NICs, HBAs or GPU accelerators, though the 2U height limits card length to half-height form factors.
