The Dell PowerEdge R630 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 six-core processor at 2.4 GHz with 24 GB of DDR4 memory into a 1U chassis. It ships with two 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives and a PERC H730 RAID controller. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies keep the platform running in space-constrained racks.

Storage Limits in an 8-Bay Chassis

Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA media and the H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Maximum supported drive capacity is 14 TB per bay. The board provides 24 DIMM slots, yet the installed processor caps usable memory at 24 GB. Four 1 GbE ports come standard on the daughter card.

Single-Processor Memory Ceiling

With one E5-2620 v3 installed the system cannot exceed 24 GB of DDR4 regardless of the 24-slot backplane. Buyers who need more memory must add a second compatible processor. The three PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot remain available for expansion cards. Remote management runs on iDRAC8 Express with optional Enterprise upgrade.
