The PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors running at 2.6 GHz with a 3.4 GHz turbo frequency. Each CPU provides eight cores, giving sixteen cores in total. The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory across eight modules, leaving sixteen slots free for expansion up to 1.5 TB. It targets midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, VDI, databases or high-performance computing nodes.

Hot-swap bays and quad-port networking for dense

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays accept SAS or SATA devices and are populated with eight 300 GB 10 K SAS drives connected to a PERC H730 1 GB controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through. Two redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and hot-swap fans keep the platform running during component replacement. A quad-port network daughter card delivers two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links. iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides dedicated out-of-band management. Rails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack mounting.

Verify rack depth, power cords

The 2U chassis requires a four-post rack with sufficient depth for the included sliding rails. Confirm that your facility supplies the correct IEC connectors for the dual 750 W units. The PERC H730 uses internal SAS cables; ensure the backplane cabling matches your drive configuration. Memory upgrades must use DDR4 registered ECC modules. The X520/I350 card needs SFP+ transceivers or direct-attach cables for the 10 Gb ports, which are not included.
