This new Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server designed for midsize and large enterprise workloads. It ships with dual Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors running at 2.60 GHz with 3.4 GHz turbo, providing 16 total cores. The system includes 64 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory across four 16 GB modules. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC8 Enterprise remote management come installed.

Suits Virtualisation and Database Nodes

The eight 2.5-inch drive bays and PERC H730 RAID controller support SAS and SATA drives with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Quad-port networking delivers two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections for high-throughput traffic. Organisations needing more than 1.5 TB of memory or requiring more than two processors cannot expand this platform further. Buyers needing GPU compute density or newer instruction sets should evaluate other platforms.

Dual Socket LGA 2011-3 Platform

The motherboard uses the Intel C610 chipset with two LGA 2011-3 sockets, both populated. Twenty-four DDR4 slots allow growth from the factory 64 GB up to the 1.5 TB maximum using registered ECC modules. This socket and chipset combination defines the processor generation and memory type compatible with the chassis.
