The PowerEdge R730XD fits 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch drive bays into a 2U rack chassis, targeting teams that need local storage capacity alongside compute in a single shelf. A single Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor at 2.4 GHz and 48 GB of DDR4 across 24 DIMM slots provide the processing baseline for virtualisation hosts, backup targets or software-defined storage nodes.

Chassis and connectivity

Dual 750 W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the platform running during a module failure or routine replacement. The H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache presents twelve Gbps SAS and SATA links to the backplane, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the full bay count. Four onboard one-gigabit Ethernet ports handle management and workload traffic, while six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot remain open for additional network or accelerator cards.

Ready-to-rack additions

A DVD-ROM drive, a power cable and a rail kit ship in the box so the server can be mounted and powered immediately. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band hardware monitoring, firmware updates and remote console access without an operating system installed. The Matrox G200 graphics controller supplies basic video for local console tasks during installation or troubleshooting.
