The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rackmount server designed for data-centre workloads that need dense compute in a standard cabinet. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2670v3 twelve-core processor running at 2.3GHz and 128GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots. The chassis supports up to two processors and a maximum of 128GB installed RAM, making it suited for virtualization hosts, database nodes or general-purpose application tiers that fit within the current memory ceiling.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

Dual 500W hot-swap redundant power supplies share the load, so a single unit failure does not interrupt operation. The 2U form factor uses front-to-rear airflow tuned for rack density; fan speed ramps with inlet temperature and CPU utilisation, keeping acoustics appropriate for a server room rather than an office. Power draw scales with the active core count and memory population, allowing the platform to run typical enterprise workloads within the redundant supply envelope.

Included accessories and software impact

Two drive trays with screws are provided for the eight 2.5-inch SFF bays, but no drives are installed, so storage capacity and performance are entirely defined by the disks you add. The onboard B140i controller delivers software RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 for SATA devices only; it does not support SAS or NVMe, limiting array options to SATA SSDs or HDDs. Basic video output comes from a Matrox G200eH2 chip with 16MB memory, sufficient for installation and remote console but not for graphical workloads. No operating system is included.
