The ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB492SKL-B is a rugged full-metal mobile rack that installs into a single external 3.5-inch drive bay. It accepts two 2.5-inch SATA or SAS hard drives or solid-state drives ranging from 5 mm to 9.5 mm in height. The unit is built for enterprise environments where physical security and hot-swap capability are required. A dual-lock mechanism combines a key lock for drive security with a thumb screw for vibration resistance.

Single-Channel 12 Gbps SAS and 6 Gbps SATA Interface

The rack connects through a single channel that supports SAS 3.0 at 12 Gbps and SATA 3.0 at 6 Gbps. It remains backwards compatible with 3 Gbps SATA drives and hosts. A SAS host controller is required to operate SAS drives at full speed. This interface specification determines whether the rack matches the host bandwidth and drive protocol in your server or workstation.

Sustained Operation With Full-Metal Heat Dissipation

The all-metal construction acts as a heatsink for both drives during continuous read and write workloads. Removable trays allow drive replacement without powering down the system, maintaining uptime under load. The thumb-screw lock keeps each tray seated firmly, preventing connection loss from shock or vibration in rackmount deployments.
