The Seagate ST8000NM0105 is an 8 TB 3.5-inch internal hard drive built for bulk-data workloads. It uses a SATA 6 Gb/s interface and 512E advanced format for straightforward integration into replicated or RAID multi-drive servers and storage systems. The drive targets administrators who need high-capacity nearline storage in a standard form factor.

Six-disk platform upgrade

Ninth-generation perpendicular recording technology packs six disks into the same slot, delivering 33% more capacity than the previous five-disk design. Advanced Write Caching applies enhanced algorithms to double random-write performance over the prior generation. The jump is worthwhile when density and sustained write throughput matter more than low access latency.

Sustained nearline workload behaviour

End-to-end SAS-based data integrity, on-the-fly error correction and super parity protect accuracy during continuous operation. A state-of-the-art cache and SLC NAND flash buffer absorb write bursts so that performance efficiencies remain high under prolonged nearline workloads rather than only in short bursts. The drive is not suited for primary boot or low-latency transactional roles.
