It accepts both 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA hard drives or SSDs, letting you grow raw capacity up to 80 TB without downtime. The diskless chassis ships with an eSATA cable, power cord and screwless trays for quick deployment.

Suits owners of DS1517, DS1517+, DS1817 or DS1817+

This unit only works with the four DiskStation models listed above; any other NAS, server or PC cannot attach to its proprietary eSATA port. Buyers who need more than five extra bays, a different host interface or a standalone NAS should look at a separate platform.
