The C&N ST7218 is a two-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter built around the Intel X710 controller. It connects through a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot and auto-negotiates 10 GbE or 1 GbE links with SFP+ transceivers, direct-attach copper or active optical cables up to ten metres. The card ships with both a full-height and a low-profile bracket for flexible mounting.

Hardware virtualisation features include PCI-SIG SR-IOV, Virtual Machine Device Queues and Flexible Port Partitioning, letting multiple VMs share the physical ports with near-native throughput. MACsec 802.1 AE encryption and IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol are supported in hardware. Drivers cover Windows 11 down to Server 2008 R2, RHEL 8 through 9.4, Ubuntu 22.04 and 20.04, Debian 11 and FreeBSD 12 through 14. Mac OS is explicitly unsupported.

PCIe 3.0 x8 lane requirement decides fit

The adapter needs an x8 electrical connection running at 8.0 GT/s (Gen 3) to deliver full 10 GbE line rate on both ports simultaneously. A physical x16 slot wired as x8 works, but an x4 slot halves available bandwidth. Verify the platform provides an x8 link before purchase.
