The chassis supports a second Xeon E5 v3 processor, raising the core count to 36 and enabling 16 DIMM slots for up to 1 TB of memory. Adding the second CPU is worth it when threaded applications exceed the 16 threads of the installed chip. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays allow further SAS or SATA expansion without a chassis change.

SAS interface and controller constraints

The Smart HBA H240 delivers 12 Gbps SAS and 6 Gbps SATA connectivity with RAID 0, 1 and 5 support. Drives are limited to the 6 Gbps link speed of the installed 15K SAS disks.
