The Wavlink RapidFire U41F is a 40Gbps USB4 NVMe drive enclosure built for B+M/M-Key PCIe SSDs in 2280 size. It accepts drives up to 8TB and works with Windows, Mac OS and Linux. The unit is aimed at users who need portable, high-speed storage for large media files, game libraries or backups. It does not support AHCI or SATA SSDs, so buyers with those drives must look elsewhere.

Sustained-load behaviour

A full aluminium body with dual-sided perforations and a built-in fan provides 360° airflow around the SSD. Thermal silicone pads and an aluminium strip conduct heat away from both sides of double-sided modules. The ASM2464PD controller supports UASP, Trim and S.M.A.R.T., reducing data delay and helping maintain performance during long transfers. With a qualified SSD and host, sequential speeds can reach 3800MB/s.

Installation experience

Tool-free assembly lets you slide the SSD in and secure it without screws. The package includes a USB-C to USB-C cable, a handy strap, a pouch and a quick-start guide. Compatibility covers USB4, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.2 and USB 2.0 hosts. The only common issue is attempting to use an unsupported SATA or AHCI M.2 drive, which the enclosure will not recognise.
