The ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB601VK-1B adapts a single 2.5" U.2 NVMe SSD up to 15 mm tall into any standard external 3.5" device bay. It connects through a U.2 port (SFF-8639) and supports the full NVMe bandwidth specification of 32 Gbps. A ruggedised full-metal enclosure meets flammability requirements and provides EMI grounding to protect the drive from electrical damage.

Suits systems with a native U.2 NVMe host link

This rack is built for workstations and servers that already expose a U.2 NVMe connection at the drive bay. It will not operate on platforms that lack a direct NVMe pathway to the bay, nor on setups limited to other signalling methods. Builders needing hot-swap trays for multiple drives or for different form factors should consider alternative enclosures.

U.2 connector (SFF-8639) host interface

The single U.2 port is the only data and power path, so the host must supply a native NVMe link through that connector. Without a compatible U.2 NVMe host connection the SSD cannot communicate or receive power. Verify the motherboard, backplane or add-in card provides this exact interface before purchase.
