PCIe 4.0 x1 to Oculink SFF-8612 Adapter

This adapter adds an Oculink SFF-8612 x4 interface through a PCIe x1 slot. It targets builders connecting NVMe SSDs or eGPU docks using an SFF-8611 cable. Systems must run Windows, Windows Server or Linux. The card fits a single expansion slot and requires no extra drivers.

Sustained transfer behaviour

The link operates at the PCIe 4.0 standard with a 16 GT/s per lane rate across the x1 electrical connection. Real-world throughput is limited by the single lane rather than the x4 Oculink receptacle. Heavy sequential workloads will saturate the upstream lane before the downstream port reaches its nominal ceiling. Thermal output remains low because the board draws minimal power.

Installation notes

Insert the card into any free PCIe x1 slot and attach the SFF-8611 cable to the SFF-8612 port. The welded connector housing resists damage during repeated mating cycles. Boot support is included, but the host BIOS must expose the slot in PCIe or NVMe mode; some platforms require forcing Gen 3 and a cold restart. Buyers without a PCIe slot cannot use this adapter.
