RAID Builders and Industrial Installers
The cage targets users who need high drive counts in a single optical bay with hot-swap trays and keyed locks. Builders limited to 5 mm to 7 mm drive heights or single-channel SAS host adapters will find the specification a mismatch. Systems without a free 5.25" opening or eight SATA ports cannot accommodate the unit.
Eight SATA 7-pin Host Ports
Each bay requires its own SATA 7-pin connection to the controller, so the host must present eight ports or an expander. The backplane passes SATA I, II and III signals plus single-channel SAS without protocol translation. If the controller offers fewer than eight ports, the full capacity cannot be used.
