Z97 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Platform

This ATX motherboard uses the Intel Z97 chipset and LGA 1150 socket to support 4th and 5th generation Core i3, i5 and i7 processors as well as Xeon and Pentium parts. Four DDR3 slots accept dual-channel kits up to 32 GB running at speeds from 1066 to 3200 MHz when overclocked. Onboard video outputs are driven by the processor integrated graphics including Intel HD Graphics 4400 and 4600 with Quick Sync Video support.

Sustained Load Behaviour

The board provides two PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots that operate at x16 when one is populated or x8 and x8 when both are used, plus a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot running at x2 and two PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots. Storage includes six SATA3 6.0 Gb/s ports with RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10, one SATA Express 10 Gb/s connector, an Ultra M.2 socket at Gen3 x4 and a second M.2 socket at Gen2 x2 or SATA3. Realtek ALC1150 delivers 7.1 channel audio and Intel I218V handles gigabit LAN.

Installation Notes

Standard ATX mounting holes and a conventional 24-pin plus 8-pin CPU power layout fit most chassis without clearance issues. The Ultra M.2 slot shares bandwidth with SATA3 ports four and five so populating it disables those connectors. BIOS ships updated to the latest version but memory speeds above 1600 MHz require manual XMP selection in UEFI.
