Who should look elsewhere

Buyers who need more than eight drive bays, a second processor installed from day one or more than 24 GB of memory out of the box should consider larger chassis. The single-CPU configuration limits the memory ceiling to 24 GB on this unit, and the PERC H330 controller does not support JBOD or pass-through modes required by some software-defined storage stacks. Organisations requiring GPU compute or more than five PCIe expansion slots will also need a different platform.

Deciding specification

The installed memory is fixed at 24 GB and the motherboard provides twelve DDR4 DIMM slots with a maximum capacity of 24 GB per processor, so adding a second CPU is the only way to exceed that limit. If your workload fits within 24 GB, the current configuration is sufficient; if it does not, you must plan for a second processor and additional memory modules at purchase time.
