Half-height blade server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for high-density data-centre deployments. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6230 processors deliver 20 cores each at 2.1 GHz with 3.9 GHz turbo, totalling 40 cores and 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory. It targets organisations running virtualization, private cloud or HPC workloads that need maximum throughput per rack unit.

Upgrade from older blades or rack servers

Replacing earlier-generation blades or 1U rack servers with the M640 adds up to 56 cores per node and supports up to 1.5 TB of DDR4 memory, so the jump is worth it when workloads outgrow current CPU or memory headroom. The integrated PERC S140 controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 across SATA or SAS drives, while the two installed 1.92 TB SATA SSDs provide fast boot and application storage without extra drive bays.

Fits MX or M1000e chassis with 10 Gb networking

The blade slides into a PowerEdge MX or M1000e enclosure, sharing power, cooling and fabric modules to reduce cabling and free rack space. A Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb daughter card supplies high-speed connectivity, and iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote management without a dedicated console. Buyers needing GPU acceleration, Fibre Channel or more than two 2.5-inch drives should plan for a different form factor.
