2U rack server for dense storage workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R530 fits eight 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays into a 2U chassis, delivering up to 80TB of raw capacity. A single Intel Xeon E5-2603 V3 six-core processor running at 1.6GHz and 8GB of DDR4 memory handle file, backup or archive duties. Dual 750W redundant power supplies keep the platform running through a module failure. The PERC H730 controller with 1GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across SAS or SATA drives.

Sustained throughput with twelve DIMM slots

Twelve DDR4 slots (six per processor) allow memory to grow to 384GB when a second CPU is added, reducing swapping during long backup windows or database scans. The H730's 12Gbps SAS interface feeds the two 300GB 15K drives and any additional spindles without controller bottlenecks. Five PCIe slots (three at 3.0, two at 2.0) accept extra NICs, HBA cards or GPU accelerators for compute-heavy pipelines. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band monitoring and firmware updates without host OS involvement.

Redundant cooling and power in a 62-pound chassis

Dual 750W hot-swap power supplies share load evenly, so each unit operates well below its thermal limit during normal operation. System fans ramp based on inlet temperature and component sensors, keeping acoustic output predictable in a rack row. The Matrox G200eR2 video subsystem draws minimal power for console access. Four onboard 1GbE ports handle management and data traffic without extra adapters. No operating system is included, allowing immediate installation of the preferred hypervisor or bare-metal OS.
