The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores each. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and eight 8 TB SAS hard drives connected to a PERC H730P controller. The system targets virtualization, database hosting and file-serving workloads that need high core counts and large local storage.

Installation and common issues

The chassis includes ready rails and a front bezel for standard rack mounting. Redundant hot-swap 750 W power supplies allow replacement without downtime. Eight 7.2 K RPM SAS drives deliver steady sequential throughput for logging or backup workloads while the H730P battery-backed cache protects write data during unexpected power loss.
