Dense scale-out platform

The PowerEdge R640 is a dual-socket 1U rack server built for dense scale-out data centre computing. Two Xeon Platinum 8160 processors each deliver 24 cores at 2.1 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory is installed across four 16 GB modules. The platform supports up to 3 TB across 24 memory slots.

Front-access storage and networking

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays hold 800 GB SATA SSDs behind a hot-swap backplane managed by a PERC H730P 2 GB controller with battery-backed cache. The controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes. A quad-port network daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote management. Ready rails and a front bezel are included for rack mounting.

Redundant platinum power

Dual 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies provide hot-swap redundancy. The 1U chassis uses internal airflow directed across the processors, memory and drive cage. Fan speeds are managed by iDRAC thermal policies to balance cooling and acoustic output under typical workloads.
