Dense 1U dual-socket platform

The PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack server built around two Xeon Gold 6134 processors, each running at 3.2 GHz with eight cores and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across four 16 GB modules, leaving twenty empty DIMM slots for expansion up to 3 TB. The system targets scale-out workloads that need high compute density in a single rack unit.

Eight hot-swap trays and integrated networking

Eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive trays are populated with carriers only; no drives are installed. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes. Networking is handled by an Intel X520/I350 daughter card delivering two 1 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. iDRAC 9 Enterprise gives full out-of-band remote management, and ready rails plus a front bezel are included for immediate rack mounting.

Redundant platinum power supplies

Dual hot-swap 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies provide full redundancy for the dual-processor configuration. The 1U form factor relies on high-speed internal fans to move air across the CPUs, memory, controller and network card under load. Acoustic output is typical for a density-optimised rack server and scales with thermal demand from the installed components.
