The Dell PowerEdge R640 arrives with two Xeon Bronze 3204 processors running at 1.9GHz and 32GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Four 3.5-inch drive bays and a PERC H740P RAID controller are fitted, while a 10GbE 562T dual-port adapter handles network traffic. The system ships without storage drives so you can populate the bays with the capacity you need.

Storage and Expansion Limits

The chassis supports a maximum of four 3.5-inch SATA drives connected to the PERC H740P controller. Memory can scale to 7.68TB across the available slots, but the board is already populated with two 16GB modules. Processor sockets are fully occupied by the dual Bronze 3204 CPUs, leaving no room for additional compute upgrades.

Pre-Installation Checklist

Verify that your rack provides 36 inches of depth, 24 inches of width and 10 inches of height for the 2U form factor. Confirm that the facility can supply two 750W power supplies with the correct inlet connectors. Ensure your operating system and hypervisor support the installed Xeon Bronze 3204 architecture and that you have suitable 3.5-inch drives ready for the four hot-plug bays.
