The Dell PowerEdge R640 fits into a standard 2U rack space and ships with two Xeon Silver 4214R processors running at 2.4 GHz. Each CPU provides twelve cores for a total of twenty-four threads. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across its DIMM slots. It is aimed at IT teams building dense virtualisation hosts or database nodes.

Storage limited to four 3.5-inch SATA bays

The chassis supports up to four 3.5-inch drives connected through the onboard SATA interface. A PERC H740P RAID controller manages the array and provides hardware RAID levels. No drives are installed, so buyers must supply their own SATA disks. The 10 GbE 562T dual-port adapter handles network traffic.

Maximum memory capacity reaches 7.68 TB

The platform can scale from the installed 128 GB up to 7.68 TB of DDR4 when all DIMM sockets are populated with high-capacity modules. This ceiling determines whether the server can accommodate future workload growth without a platform change. Remote management is handled by iDRAC9 Enterprise. Dual 750 W power supplies provide redundancy.
