Dual Xeon 14-core 2U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rackmount server fitted with two Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors running at 2.40 GHz with 14 cores each. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 slots. The system includes a PERC H730 storage controller and two 400 GB SATA SSDs. It targets midsize to large enterprise workloads such as databases, virtual desktop infrastructure and high-performance computing nodes.

512 GB DDR4 with room to 1.5 TB

The installed 512 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz memory occupies 16 of the 24 available DIMM slots, leaving headroom for expansion up to the platform maximum of 1.5 TB. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays currently hold two 400 GB enterprise SATA SSDs, leaving six bays open for additional SAS or SATA storage. The PERC H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with its 1 GB cache and battery backup.

LGA 2011-3 socket limits CPU upgrades

Both LGA 2011-3 sockets are populated with the maximum of two processors, so no further CPU upgrades are possible without replacing the existing E5-2680 v4 units. The board uses the Intel C610 chipset and provides quad-port networking with two 1 GbE and two 10 GbE SFP+ ports. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies deliver redundant hot-swap power. iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables full remote management.
